A class called “Tips for Improving Your Resume” will be held at the Adel Public Library on Monday, March 7 at 10 a.m. and will be repeated on Wednesday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
This class covers the latest resume trends, suggestions for formatting, objectives, “rules” and styles. Interviewing tips and resume critiques will be offered, if time allows.
The class targets those wanting to advance their careers, job applicants, and graduating students. Participants may bring their own laptop computers. Laptops will be available after the class for resume writing only.
“Van” VanBuren, a retired business executive and Information Technology professional, will teach the class. Van moved back to his native Dallas County after living in six states and Switzerland during his business career. He is involved in various civic affairs and does Management Consulting for local Iowa companies.

Japanese-American Grace Amemiya of Ames will be guest speaker at the annual Friends of the Library Spring Luncheon set for Saturday, April 2 at 11:30 a.m. in the community room.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the program on the Japanese Internment during World War II will follow. To make luncheon reservations, call 993-3512 by Wednesday, March 30.
With her family, Grace Amemiya was forced into the Gila River Internment Camp in Arizona 69 years ago at the age of 21. At the time she was attending college studying to be a nurse when President Franklin Roosevelt ordered all persons of Japanese ancestry to live in internment camps. The population at Gila River was 10,000 and Grace worked as a nurse at the camp’s hospital, earning $12 a month. She will tell of her experiences at the camp.
All Friends’ members are invited as well as those who would like to join. Memberships are $5 for individual, $10 for family, and $50 for lifetime. There is no charge for the lunch or program.
“Photography Tips” will be presented by professional photographer Casandra Mueller, a new Adel resident, on two consecutive Tuesdays, March 15 and 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the library community room.
During the first session Casandra will give lots of photography tips. Bring your own camera if you have questions about it.
Take pictures during the week, applying what you have learned, then return on the 22nd with your pictures to receive further feedback.
The photography program is free.
The last Storytime with Dallas County Conservation will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. The topic: “Mmm, Mmm, Maple Syrup” Naturalists Cindy Blobaum and Laura Zaugg will bring stories, activities and artifacts for a 30-45 minute session.
